"Seeing Red"

Film: The Angry Red Planet (1959)

Alias: Alien Plant, Bat-Rat-Crab Spider, Giant Amoeba, the Martians

Type: Alien

Location: Desert/Jungle/Lake

Height/Weight: Ranges from normal human size to that of average office buildings.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: Mars, always the fickle planet. An enigma among scientists, this red planet always seems to be the target of sci-fi fascination, and we're not sure why. Either way, prepare for burnt retinas as we watch Mars get engulfed in "Cinemagic".

History: The most advanced race in the galaxy, the Martians had been watching our own planet for eons. However, they seemed to forget that those pesky humans they had been watching would someday attempt to make contact with them in the hopes for enlightenment. Annoyed by this, the Martians didn't raise a finger as the crew was assaulted by all matter of alien flora and fauna, particularly a certain rodent-arthropod abomination and their gelatinous sentinel.

Notable Kills: Nothing special, barring the absorbtion of a poor soul.

Final Fate: The plant is killed by "Cleo" the freeze ray, the Bat-Rat-Crab-Spider is blinded by a light ray, and the amoeba is driven off by high-frequency sounds. After all is said and done, the Martians warn humanity that if they ever set their inexperienced feet on Mars ever again, there would be Hell to pay...

Powers/Abilities: Only the amoeba stands out, as it is virtually indestructible.

Weakness: Anything conventional, though the amoeba can only be driven off by intense sound. It can also be possibly killed by electricity.

Scariness Factor: 4-While the plant and the Martians are pretty average-looking, the Bat-Rat-Crab-Spider is nothing short of original and freaky, and the amoeba is on par with the Blob from earlier years.

Trivia: -The film's eye-hurting aesthetic known as "Cinemagic" was, appropriately, poorly received by the many.

-According to the screenwriter, his kids were the judges of the first draft. It explains a lot, really.

"Dang! Missed by an inch!"

Eyes lasers would have been an evolutionary advantage for him.

"Just ignore them. They're just tourists."

The plant life only marks the start of their problems...

"I want no part in this."

How could you not notice the giant black mass of fur above, guys?!

"AHH! MY RAGE HAS BLINDED ME!"

The first sign of a Martian and...well, we're not sure.

Nice city! Too bad its guardian is the final boss!
Don't get any funny ideas, Japan.

Everything before this blob of destruction was a cakewalk.
